Science Assignments - due today and Wednesday

Science in the News assignment was due today (Monday). You had enough class time to finish Friday but, if you were absent Friday, here is the assignment so you can do it for homework (due Wednesday).

Science in the News
  • Find an article online, published within the last 2 years, that is related in some way to the work we have done so far this year; plants, animals, or other organisms, crops, farming, sustainability, the environment, pollution, human impact, etc.
  • Ensure you are using reputable sites, by using the techniques learned in class, and are able to find the same information on more than one reputable site.
  • Summarize what the article is about, when it was published, and where you found the information.
  • Explain how it is related to what we have learned about so far this year
  • Share why you believe it is important, and how it impacts our world
  • When you finish, make sure you have shared it with me at cawoolfrey@educbe.ca

Niches
  • Continuing on from our work last week on Niches, you now get to learn more about the 2 organisms you chose from the ecosystem your group decided.
  • Find 2 reputable websites with information on the niches your 2 organisms occupy in the ecosystem you chose.
  • Create a song, poem or drawing.
  • You can use an existing song and change the lyrics or make up your own. You may also use the Sesame Street song, "Who are the People in your Neighbourhood" we listened to last Thursday.
  • Be detailed about how these specific organisms are connected to their environment and the role they play, including both living and non-living factors.
  • Consider the roles the organisms’ niches played in the formation of the ecosystem and what would happen to this ecosystem if one or both of these organisms disappeared
  • If you choose to create a drawing in your Visual Journal, it must be extremely detailed and coloured and the next page needs to have a detailed 'Artists Statement' explaining the drawing.
  • Here are a few links with some more information on Niches. The readings you were to have read for last Thursday will be helpful, as well.
