Humanities Homework
Students were given an explore or exploit step 4 assessment sheet today. They can use their notes to complete it or use the knowledge that they have acquired over the last couple of months. This will be handed in tomorrow so that students do not have homework over the break.

Digital Stories/Speeches
Most students presented their digital stories today. I wanted to say thank you for sharing your stories with their classmates and myself. I shed a few tears and had lots of laughs watching their stories. Any students who were unable to present today will have an opportunity tomorrow or Friday.
Tomorrow students will be presenting their explore/exploit speeches in our town hall meeting.

Digital Stories Due Tomorrow
Tomorrow students will be presenting their digital stories. They have had class time since Dec 4th to work on this project. If students were unable to finish they can present whatever they have. Students should upload their imovie to their Google drive so it is easy to access tomorrow. If for some reason they were only able to do the pictures and not voice recording they can read their script as their pictures are shown on the board.
Once all the digital stories are complete they will have time to work on their reflection describing the process of creating the digital story and listening/watching other students. This reflection will be due on January 9th but can be handed in sooner.

Science Assignments - due today and Wednesday
Science in the News assignment was due today (Monday). You had enough class time to finish Friday but, if you were absent Friday, here is the assignment so you can do it for homework (due Wednesday).
Science in the News
- Find an article online, published within the last 2 years, that is related in some way to the work we have done so far this year; plants, animals, or other organisms, crops, farming, sustainability, the environment, pollution, human impact, etc.
- Ensure you are using reputable sites, by using the techniques learned in class, and are able to find the same information on more than one reputable site.
- Summarize what the article is about, when it was published, and where you found the information.
- Explain how it is related to what we have learned about so far this year
- Share why you believe it is important, and how it impacts our world
- When you finish, make sure you have shared it with me at cawoolfrey@educbe.ca
Niches
- Continuing on from our work last week on Niches, you now get to learn more about the 2 organisms you chose from the ecosystem your group decided.
- Find 2 reputable websites with information on the niches your 2 organisms occupy in the ecosystem you chose.
- Create a song, poem or drawing.
- You can use an existing song and change the lyrics or make up your own. You may also use the Sesame Street song, "Who are the People in your Neighbourhood" we listened to last Thursday.
- Be detailed about how these specific organisms are connected to their environment and the role they play, including both living and non-living factors.
- Consider the roles the organisms’ niches played in the formation of the ecosystem and what would happen to this ecosystem if one or both of these organisms disappeared
- If you choose to create a drawing in your Visual Journal, it must be extremely detailed and coloured and the next page needs to have a detailed 'Artists Statement' explaining the drawing.
- Here are a few links with some more information on Niches. The readings you were to have read for last Thursday will be helpful, as well.

Humanities
This week the students were working diligently on their digital story and the explore/exploit project. These projects are due on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. Students are encouraged to continue working on them this weekend if needed. On Tuesday, we will have a viewing party for their digital stories and if they would like they can bring in a treat with them that day.

Please read for Science Class on Thursday
This link provides excellent content on Ecosystems. Please read the information on population dynamics, regulating ecosystem functions and niches (pages 16-22). You are welcome to read the rest as well!

Big Projects
Students were given their roles yesterday in class for their project Explore or Exploit. Students should do a bit of research this weekend (30 minutes) to begin the process. This activity will take place on December 18th.
They are also working on their digital story projects in class. Students will be presenting these on December 17th in class.
Both projects seem to have the students engaged and they seem excited to be working on them. Send me an email if you have any questions.

- A minimum of 10 stops
- A minimum of 3 reflections
- 1 rotation
- Drawings (simple or complex/pencil, fine-lined, or coloured) at each stop
- Clear, numbered instructions in your Math/Science booklet on a new page. Do not include coordinate pairs or name of location with these instructions
- Include the type of transformation and the direction and distance travelled for each move (ex: reflect up over x-axis. Translate 10 to the right and 7 down. Rotate 90 degrees clockwise around point (-7, +3)
- Label each stop on your map with a number (1, 2, 3....) in order of travel.
- Do not include coordinate pairs with your stops
- Number coordinate grid
Level 4 - All points are accurate and numbered. Translations, reflections, and rotations are correct and include type of transformation, direction, and amount. Steps to reach each point are complete, detailed, numbered and separated (one step per line). You have a minimum of 10 stops, 3 reflections, and 1 rotation and have included a title.
