Humanities

Students have been working on their individual novel study. They are reading in class and then writing a summary and answering a prompt from their reading sheet. If students feel they are not going to finish in time they can be reading additional pages at home. When they have completed their book they will be completing a final project.


Battle for the Continent 

Students have been split into small groups (they picked their team members)  and will be creating a board game to represent a battle from the Seven Year War. On Monday students are invited to bring in a board game so that they can see how proper instructions are written.

Science in the News - Due Monday, January 20th

Locate a news article, published in the last year that relates to our next unit of study in Science. The article can be related to any of the following concepts:

• Temperature
• Energy and Heat related technology
• Thermal technology
• States of matter
• Heat transfer
• Insulation
• Thermal conductivity
• Energy use and conservation
• Conduction
• Convection
• Radiation

Once you have found an article, create a summary of it that includes what it is about, who is involved, where and when it took place.
Next answer the following questions:

• How is this article relevant to our unit of study?
• Does it connect to any other science work you have done in the past?
• Why do you think this is important for us to learn about?
• How does it impact us and our world?

If you choose to work in partners, you need to complete this work for 2 news articles. One must be related to our Heat and Temperature unit and the other can be anything Science related.
You can do this work in a Google Doc or in Google Slides. Makes sure you have:

• a title and your name at the top of your work
• 3-6 paragraphs (3-5 sentences/paragraph)
• Edit for spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar, formatting and spacing.
• Self-edit, have a peer edit, then ask an older sibling or adult at home to help you identify errors so you can fix them.

Individual Novel Study

Students are beginning an individual novel study. Each day in class, they will be required to read a certain number of pages, write a summary, and answer a provided prompt from the teacher or from the sheet they were given. We will be working on this activity for the next month. If students do not like the book they have chosen, they may decide to switch up until Friday, so they do not fall too far behind.
